My hide-out in Kanazawa

It is a little tiny place on narrow side street of Higasiyama Teahouse area.
People usually don’t realize it because it dose not show big sign.
Even if people realize it, they would surely hesitate to enter it.
It has some kind of atmosphere to prevent people from entering.
But once you [...]

Recommended night snack or meal in Katamachi area

According to Kikunoya Ryokan in Kanazawa, there is a unique place called “Yaho”.
“Yaho” is not a name of anything, but people just call that Japanese light meal bar “Yaho”.
That’s because the master of that bar only speaks “Yaho”.
“Yaho” itself doesn’t mean anything.
No matter what words you speak to him, he only says “Yaho”.
“Yaho” is the [...]

Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kanazawa

The reason why I went to Tokyo this time was to see my time honored friend from Canada for the first time in 7 years and his wife in 19 years and their two daughters totally for the first time.
Anyway after having a good and crazy time in Tokyo, I took a Johestsu Shinkansen from [...]

Highway Bus from Kanazawa to Tokyo

I went to Tokyo last Friday by JR Highway bus.
It was an overnight bus and totally full of passengers.
It costs only 7000 something yen, almost a half price of train or airplane.
Is it comfortable?
I am sorry I don’t think so.
My bus departed at 10pm at Kanazawa Station and arrived at Tokyo Station at 6:30 and [...]

Asanogawa River

I live near the Asanogawa river. It is also called Woman’s river.
I sometimes go there just for a walk and sit down for a while.
My favorite spot is between the Asanogawa Oohashi bridge and the Umenohashi bridge.
You can hear the sound of stream and watch the traditional old houses.
You feel surely calm down there.
Last Summer [...]

Sunday English Club in Kanazawa

I have some students who want to learn English from me. I used to teach it at my place privately, but I thought it is much more efficient if I do it in a small group. Students themselves help each other and stimulate each other and I think that’s the way they learn English more [...]

Ishiguro, the Kappou (culinary art)

Ishiguro is my #2 hide-out that I wrote here couple of days ago.
I went there again for lunch just now.
I did not speak even single word there as usual as I wrote here.
Today’s only one kind lunch box was grilled flatfish and boiled eggplant with some beef and some vinegared sea foods.
It comes of course [...]

“TAKOYAKI” Octopus Dumpling in Kanazawa

I am not that crazy about “Takoyaki”, octopus dumpling, but most of Japanese people love it so that you can find a “Takoyaki” shop quite a few in town.
The “Takoyaki” shop I like most is called “Gindako” in the basement of M’ZA department store in Musashi area.
I sometimes buy “Takoyaki” there and bring it back [...]
